Sales Manager Responsibilities

  • Lead a team that is responsible for retail sales and service functions across print and digital platforms.
  • Develop staff skills on prospecting new advertisers, closing sales, communication, negotiation, and selling multi-media product packages.
  • Manage and measure expected results through use of standards of performance and by coaching team members to success through ongoing feedback, training and conducting annual performance appraisals.
  • Achieve revenue and active account goals through development and implementation of products focused on meeting customer needs.
  • Grow revenue for the Advertiser’s high profile products by developing business from existing and new customers.
  • Assess and monitor market conditions and sales performance.  Create, adapt, implement and communicate strategic and tactical plans to achieve desired results and initiatives.
  • Negotiate contracts and establish relationships with key current and prospective clients.
  • Serve as a member of the departmental operational planning team responsible for executing strategies and budgets.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years sales and managerial experience. Newspaper, magazine or digital sales and sales management a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively manage and develop others and direct the operations of the department.
  • Ability to meet/exceed sales/revenue goals and to identify new opportunities and create sales solution
  • Knowledge of digital product applications as they relate to advertising opportunities. Excellent understanding of sales compensation and standards of performance programs. 
  • Excellent verbal communications skills. Must be articulate and persuasive.
  • Highly organized and disciplined self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have the drive to exceed expectations and outperform peers.
  • PC and Internet proficiency, including MS Office and Outlook including advanced skills with Excel and PowerPoint.
