The APA Journalism Foundation offers eight $1,500 newsroom internships that last 10 weeks during the summer to college students. These internships are awarded to the newspaper, and the newspaper is responsible for selecting the intern.

The 2009 internship recipients are The Times Daily in Florence, The Montgomery Independent, the Shelby County Reporter in Columbiana, The Clanton Advertiser, the Franklin County Times in Russellville, and The Jacksonville News.
